A Facelift is also known as Rhytidectomy.
Aging gracefully means being confident in your own skin. The goal of a facelift is to help you achieve just that.
Once you’ve decided that a facelift procedure is the best fit to properly address your unique needs and concerns, your surgeon and the medical team will also have a conversation with you about your recovery during the pre-op appointment and on the day of your surgery.
The recovery period after facelift surgery is vital to achieving your long-term aesthetic goals as the surgery itself. And if you are not sure where to start, ContourMD® can help. The design of our facelift compression garments are tailored to compliment your aesthetic desires and individual facial anatomy. ContourMD© provides high-quality facelift compression garments that will cater to your individual needs with compassionate comfort, body contour and soothing relief to the skin.
The Stages of Healing
Learn about the stages of healing and what your body goes through after surgery to understand why the right facelift compression garment is critical to reaching the results you are looking for.
Stage I Garment
1-2 weeks after surgery
The healing process begins immediately after your facelift surgery.
Once the procedure is finished, a compression garment is placed and adjusted to ensure proper fit by the surgeon or someone from the medical team. It is very beneficial to rest, relax, and let your body heal properly after surgery.
A Stage I facelift compression garment promotes healing by lessening the amount of fluid build-up, reducing swelling, and preventing bruising. It can provide stability to the treated areas on your face and neck, while also keeping the surgical site together. This will improve the outcome of the facial and neck contour, and minimize the appearance of scarring. The compression garment will also reduce the risk of infection. During Stage I, you should wear this garment at all times, except when you’re either bathing or in the shower.

Stage II Garment
2-4 weeks after Stage I
Gradually, as you recover you should notice less and less fluid in the tissues.
This will mostly depend on your compression garment and your body’s natural ability to heal. Gradually, as you recover you should notice less and less fluid in the tissues. This is when you will want to switch to Stage II for your facelift compression garments.
A Stage II compression garment will be less bulky, yet equally effective during the recovery process. It will help in keeping optimal compression on the treated area(s). This should improve your comfort level significantly, so you’re able to return to most of your daily activities – with the exception of participating in any highly strenuous activities. Before your surgery, your plastic surgeon will go through all of this with you, and will also be given detailed post-op instructions. If instructions are followed and your facelift garment is properly worn, there will be noticeable and immediate improvement, but it will take around six months to see your final results. It is crucial to wear your compression garment after surgery to achieve optimal results.

How to Care for Your Compression Garment
In order to ensure our compression technology can perform at its peak, be sure to set a reminder to clean or launder your compression garment every one to two days.
For a longer garment life span and for proper compression maintenance, Variance is recommended by medical professionals for garment cleaning. It is usually recommended to have two facial compression garments for a facelift procedure. This is because the garment needs to be cleaned, and you will also want to get a less bulky garment for Stage II of your facelift recovery.
– There will be less fluid in the tissues as your facial and neck areas heal within a few weeks. This is when you will want to switch to a facelift compression garment with a more simple appearance to ensure your full recovery.
– Remember to clean or launder your compression garment every one to two days. If you do decide on a second garment, it will also provide a much higher chance that you’ll wear the compression garment as instructed at the required time each day.
– Lastly, there are several different styles of facial or facelift garments. These options are provided to cater to each of your individual preferences.

A facelift compression garment can provide optimal results for your facial and neck contour. It can minimize the appearance of scarring and help reduce complications. However, depending on the surgical techniques, your aesthetic goals and individual anatomy, the healing process can vary widely between patients.
Some of the overall benefits of wearing a facelift compression garment includes improving blood circulation, managing fluids, optimizing and decreasing recovery time, less pain and discomfort during the healing process, reducing swelling and bruising, and shaping and contouring your results.
ContourMD© compression garments are designed to comfortably assist in your journey to recovery.

When your surgical procedure is finished, a compression garment is placed by the surgeon or someone from the medical team. The surgeon prescribes pain medication(s) to minimize any discomfort after surgery. Patients will experience some swelling and bruising, but this will subside within a couple of weeks. Depending on your surgeons instructions, it usually takes several days to recover, and can usually return to work within two weeks after surgery. It is important to refrain from exercise or any strenuous activity during the first two to four weeks of recovery. There will be noticeable and immediate improvement to the facial area after surgery, but it take up to a full year to see your final results.
What is a Facelift?
Before you can understand how a facelift compression garment works, it will be helpful to have a better understanding of the procedure itself. Essentially, facelifts are a common surgical procedure (performed in the hundreds of thousands each year by surgeons across the world) that help to drastically improve the outward appearance of a patient’s age. Namely, it targets sagging skin and wrinkles that can’t be treated by less invasive procedures such as Botox, fillers, or even laser procedures. Afterwards, with the proper facelift compression garments for healing and the right maintenance and aftercare, patients can enjoy the results of their facelift for the next 10 to 15 years!
Facelift surgery can manage and help with the following cosmetic concerns:
- Excess skin along the jawline
- Laxity in the skin of the neck
- Creases near the corners of the mouth (also known as "Marionette lines")
- Sagging skin in the mid-face
