About Breast Implant Removal
Breast Implant Removal is also known as a Breast Implant Replacement, Breast Revision Surgery or Explantation.
All good things must come to an end, which is why breast implants don’t last forever.
Women who have breast augmentation in the past may decide that their breast implants are no longer right for them, while undergoing explantation may be considered for a variety of reasons.
Once you’ve decided that breast implant removal is the best fit to properly address your unique needs and concerns, your surgeon and the medical team will have a conversation with you about your recovery during the pre-op appointment and on the day of your surgery.
The recovery period after breast implant removal surgery is vital to achieving your long-term aesthetic goals – as the surgery itself. If you are not sure where to start, ContourMD® is here to help. The design of our breast implant removal compression garments are tailored to compliment your aesthetic goals and individual anatomy.
The Stages of Healing
Learn about the stages of healing and what your body goes through after surgery to understand why the right breast implant removal compression garment is critical to reaching the results you are looking for. A garment can help maintain the shape and lift of the breasts following surgery.
Stage I Garments
2 weeks after surgery
The healing process begins immediately after your breast implant removal surgery.
Once the procedure is finished, bandages, a compression garment and surgical drains are placed and adjusted to ensure proper fit by the surgeon or someone from the medical team. It is very beneficial to rest, relax, and let your body heal properly after surgery.
A Stage I breast implant removal compression garment promotes healing by lessening the amount of fluid build-up, reducing swelling, and preventing bruising. It can provide stability to the treated areas, while also keeping the surgical site together. This will improve the outcome of the body’s contour, and minimize the appearance of scarring. The compression garment will also reduce the risk of infection. During Stage I, you should wear this garment at all times, except when you’re either bathing or in the shower.

Stage II Garments
2-4 weeks after Stage I
This is when you will want to switch to Stage II for your breast implant removal compression garments.
A Stage II compression garment will help in keeping optimal compression on the treated area(s). This should improve your comfort level significantly, so you’re able to return to some lighter activities. Before your surgery, your plastic surgeon will go through all of this with you, and will also be given detailed post-op instructions. If instructions are followed and your breast implant removal garment is properly worn, there will be noticeable and immediate improvement. It is crucial to wear your compression garment after surgery to achieve optimal results.

How to Care for Your Compression Garment
In order to ensure our compression technology can perform at its peak, be sure to set a reminder to clean or launder your compression garment every one to two days.
For a longer garment life span and for proper compression maintenance, Variance is recommended by medical professionals for garment cleaning.
During the healing process, there will be less fluid in the tissues. This is when you will want to switch to a more simple breast implant removal compression garment to ensure your full recovery. Remember to clean or launder your compression garment every one to two days. Lastly, there are several different styles of breast surgery and breast implant removal garments. Breast Implant Removal Surgery
Breast implant removal is performed under general anesthesia, and the surgery usually takes around one to three hours. During the surgical procedure, the original incision is reopened where the implant was placed. Once the implant is removed, if it is deemed necessary your surgeon may need to excise part of the scar tissue that surrounds the implant. Sometimes patients will also choose to get breast revision or implant replacement during their breast implant removal surgery. After the desired results are achieved, your incisions will be closed and you will be wrapped in a surgical dressing.
When your surgical procedure is completely finished, a compression garment and drains are placed by the surgeon or someone from the medical team. The surgeon prescribes pain medication(s) to minimize any discomfort after surgery. Depending on your surgeons instructions, it usually takes around a week to recover, but complete healing may take up to four to six weeks. It is also important to refrain from any strenuous activity for about a month or so.
